GPlayer lose sound in the latest version

with 31 comments

This is because ac3 codec patent issue, for MKV files, suggest to use AAC codec for audio stream. You can get ac3killer from http://qe.tt/8KKJAZU?c and we will add ac3 decoder as a plugin in the next update.

  10. Basically, this app is worthless. What the owners are doing is illegal as well – selling a product with claims it can’t keep. I hope they can fix the major fuck-up and get the sound playing on 90% of all movie files.
But, no one at gplayer seems to actually care!!

    • I hope so – Than it will be again the best app for video playback.

Speed up and try to get AC3 running again. Be the first! I guess everbody is more than willing to pay a decent amount of money for it.
It will be definately better to earn a bit of extra money for you, instead of only getting the worst ratings for your app!

  18. You have released an update today and still has this problem.

Seriously guys, I give you that you have a really really really big balls. Everybody feels cheated by you. You are promising a solution at the next update. And “the next update” doesn’t solve the audio issue.

There isn’t anybody enough smart a your company to think that is better NOT to update till works properly again?

  19. The update from yesterday just screwed up A/V sync for all of my files. Now nothing will play – or to be more precise, everything will play with a 3s delay btw Audio and Video, which means GPlayer is essentially useless now.

I’m using MKV files with MP3 sound and h264 video.

    Is anyone aware of this?

    • Actually, I am using AVI files, not MKV. So now I switched to AirAV which works fine. Bye GPlayer.

Don’t worry though, they also release updates on a regular basis and they also screw up their own player on a regular basis. If ever GPlayer is up again when that happens, I’ll get back.

Seriously, this is not the first time it happened. It sucks.

    • Can you enlighten us as to what is inside your MKV files? Is there any AC3 sound?

      pieroxy

      March 7, 2013 at 10:01 am

      • An MKV file is a Matroska file. Matroska is an open source container format. It is an alternative to the popular AVI and MP4 formats and it also surpasses them in many areas. The container has both video and audio streams. My MKV files play well on my mac through VLC player and through HDTV live media streamer. Gplayer dosent have the necessary codecs to play the audio and one can only hope that the developers can fix this fast

        March 7, 2013 at 10:34 am

        • Thank you I know what a Matroska file is. But you didn’t answer my question: is your file using an AC3 soundtrack? If so, dont complain for it is clearly stated in the latest update that ac3 have issues.
